The Winter Solstice Enviro Show
December 24, 2008 05:02 PM PST
with d.o., Glen, Jean, and special guests Cassie and Winifred.
Greetings Earthlings. We celebrate the Return of the Sun with Cassie and Winifred of Awentree in Easthampton. No, it's not the manifestation of Bill O'Reilly's "War against Christmas", but hey, let's talk about the Christian War against Pagans while we're at it! Speaking of war, we'll checkout that infamous warmonger Darth Cheney and his target practice dummy (btw, do not throw your shoes at the radio). As always, we'll peek into The Enviro Show Echo Chamber for the news of the day and give you the Quote of the week, but first it's time for......Revenge of the Critters! Santa attacked by bobcat in Jersey! There's that theme again! So Glen, how long before Darth & the boy emperor have to hang their stockings somewhere else? As you may have heard, W has been very naughty: he's endangered the polar bears. Santa will not be pleased! That heartwarming tune, "All I want for Christmas is to impeach the President" takes us to the Enviro Show Echo Chamber where there's good news to report (finally!), three dams are to be taken out on the Klamath River in Oregon and California (you see, it's not all gloom & doom). Having said that, the Amazon? Not so much. AND this: Obama's pick of Ken Salazar for Interior Secretary gets mixed reviews. ALSO, another Enviro Show Video Blog Special, this one for the holidays! The Enviro Show Quote of the Week comes from Jonathan Swift: “We have just enough religion to make us hate, but not enough to make us love one another.” The Pagans & the Christians" by Dar Williams takes us to our interview with.....the pagans! We'll go out with "The holidays are here and we're still at war" by Brett Dennen. Can you belive this?? Next time it's the wonderful world of run-off. Until then remember: listen to your Mother! The Dump on the Aquifer Enviro Show, Part #2
Greetings Earthlings. It's a proposed landfill expansion hootenanny! Mary Serreze, whose recent piece in The Valley Advocate about Zero Waste and the dump issue, joins us to ask the musical question: Does your water taste funny when your neighbors dump on it? Also, we look deep into the darkness with Darth Cheney and the boy emperor. We'll checkout The Enviro Show Echo Chamber and the Quote of the Week, but first it's time for... Revenge of the Critters! Shark attacks boy....in his bedroom! The Enviro Show Quote of the Week comes from author, Susan Griffin: "The part of the mind that is dark to us in this culture, that is sleeping in us, that we name 'unconscious', is the knowledge that we are inseparable from all other beings in the universe". There's the Darth Cheney fanfare again! Glen! Tell us it's over NOW!! When do Darth Cheney and his little sock puppet exit stage right? We've been talking these past few weeks about all the ecological damage these enemies of the planet are doing on their way out the door. Last time we delved into the top 100 Bush regime rollbacks. Now add this one: their vile minions in the EPA have finalized rules that will make it easier for mountaintop mining companies to dump their waste near rivers and streams. In the Enviro Show Echo Chamber we pile on DC insiders Environmental Defense along with our friends from Rising Tide over that carbon trading scam you keep hearing about. Also, did Big Auto really earn that loan? AND, Obama embraces Big Oil with the James Jones pick. Then, live from the luxurious Pine Street Studios of WXOJ-LP it's Mary Serreze and the Zero Waste Valley Band! After Mary rocks the walls we'll have a chat about this concept of putting a dump over an aquifer. Is that living better through chemistry?? Clearcut The Commonwealth Enviro Show

The Clearcut The Commonwealth Enviro Show with d.o. and Glen with Special Guests Tom Neilson & Chris Matera Recorded live -Tuesday, Nov 11, 2008, 6:30-7:30 pm
Greetings Earthlings. We're all about clearcuts on today's show, here at home and around the planet. We'll have Chris Matera, forest activist and author of the Clearcut Massachusetts blog in the studio with us. Chris has documented some little known clearcutting taking place on public land here in the Commonwealth. Also tonight, Obama Nation! Will the new prez' protect the planet or will he cave to the corporados? (we can hope it's the former, yes, we can!). As always, we'll witness the latest assaults on Mother Earth from Darth Cheney and the boy emperor; we'll checkout The Enviro Show Echo Chamber; and the Quote of the Week, but first it's time for...... Revenge of the Critters! Watch out for 'dem donkeys! Glen! When does the Obama bouncer toss Darth & the boy emperor out the door? AND, what sort of damage can THE WORST ADMINISTRATION EVER do to the planet before they're finally gone? Here's one take: "Bush administration prepares environmental messes for the next prez". AND this: "Bush admin to open almost 360,000 acres of Utah public lands to drilling". If time allows, we'll run through a list of other Repugnican enemies of the Earth, members of the League of Conservation Voters' "Dirty Dozen", that voters threw out of Congress last Tuesday. The Enviro Show Quote of the Week naturally goes back to last Tuesday when Barack Obama spoke to tens of thousands gathered in Chicago after his victory at the polls: "This is our moment. This is our time - to put our people back to work and open doors of opportunity for our kids; to restore prosperity and promote the cause of peace; to reclaim the American Dream and reaffirm that fundamental truth - that out of many, we are one; that while we breathe, we hope, and where we are met with cynicism, and doubt, and those who tell us that we can't, we will respond with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people: Yes We Can." In The Enviro Show Echo Chamber we checkout Worcester Telegram on how our Forests, parks need friends. ALSO, New law protects old-growth in N.Y. Forests. AND, this from RAN: Rainforests and agriculture. Then it's time for our conversation with Chris Matera. Did you know there was clearcutting of our public forests in the Quabbin and on the Montague Plains? You can see the photos on Chris' blog: http://clearcutma.blogspot.com/ The Dump on the Aquifer Enviro Show

Greetings Earthlings. Time to talk about Mother Earth, the urban dweller. She’s stressed, she’s pressed-in, she’s not happy! Jonathan Bates, board member of Nuestras Raices, joins us to discuss that Holyoke organization’s work to protect the urban environment and create sustainable models for city living. As always, we’ll be checking out the latest from The Enviro Show Echo Chamber, the Quote of the Week, and naturally, the latest in dastardly deeds from The Empire, but first it’s time for....Revenge of the Critters! A listener suggestion: Parrot won’t talk! (at least not to the cops!) In the Enviro Show Echo Chamber: This just in from The Montague Reporter - The state investigation into the remarks made by Massachusetts Aeronautics Commission director Robert Welch has officially concluded. You may recall from our last show, Welch was the guy who said "Tree-hugging Indians" were holding up progress on the proposed Turners Falls airport expansion. Welch has resigned, as of June 4th, according to Klark Jessen, director of communications for the Executive Office of Transportation. Soooo, will TF Airport Commissioner, Mark Fairbrother, who called Narragansetts trying to protect a sacred site, “rock-hugging Indians” follow Welch into the dustbin of history? We hope so! That would be FAIR…..brother! AND this from Grist: The Hulk talks up green buildings for low-income housing. AND FINALLY (and in keeping with the show’s theme) Our Enviro Show Blog Bonus, Grist Special Series on Smart(ish) Cities. O no, it's that sound again! They’re back! Glen, when?? Yes, The Empire’s Big Oil operatives are still barricaded in the White House and, as always, up to no good. It looks like Henry Waxman is about to wax their collective ass however. He’s got Evidence that the White House influenced the EPA to deny a waiver California needed to regulate vehicle greenhouse-gas emissions. ALSO: the high priests of The Empire launch their latest offensive against the planet! On our Enviro Show Quote of the Week we have this question from the year 1888:
We revisit “Toxic City”,by System of a Down on our way to the interview with Jonatan Bates. Then it's on to the interview. The Enviro Scams Enviro Show

The Enviro Scams Enviro Show
Recorded live -Tuesday, March 18, 2008, 6-7pm
Greetings Earthlings! On this, the birthday of Rudolf Diesel, father of the diesel engine, we look into carbon trading scams as well as the upcoming global actions on Fossil Fuels Day. Speaking of scams, we’ll hear from U.S. Senate candidate, Ed O’Reilly on the fatal flaw in the proposed Cape Wind project. Ed’s lookin’ to displace the junior senator from our fair Commonwealth, the squishy patrician, John Kerry who failed to defend his presidential win in Ohio in ‘04, thus giving us four more years with the criminal Bush regime and the Repugnican Torture Party. As always, we’ll delve into the dark side with Darth Cheney, but first it’s time for.....Revenge of the Critters! Elephants strategize attacks on humans!. There it is again! The theme from the dark side!! Glen, how many days until we are free? We'll get into yet more examples of THE worst White House occupants in history, such as the Bush regime’s EPA continues dragging its hobnail boots on CO2. And, Ozone rules weakened by boy emperor! ALSO, White House operatives dis wolverines. The Gimme' Shelter Enviro Show
February 08, 2008 11:08 AM PST
Recorded live with Glen, d.o., and Jean
Greetings Earthlings, it’s a good time here in winter-bound New England to think about shelter, especially warm cozy ones, sooooo while Glen interviews Becky Kemery, author of "Yurts – Living in the Round", and maybe starts waxing poetic about how much he enjoys rugged winter camping, D.O. will be entertaining dreams of ecologically sustainable little grass shacks on warm, sunny beaches down in say, Costa Rica? Nicaragua maybe? And, as always, we’ll look into the latest assaults on the planet by the Empire, and checkout the Enviro Show Echo Chamber, but first it’s time for.....Revenge of the Critters! Mother Moose trashes snowmobiles. Go mama! Then, there’s that dreaded theme again! Glen, when will the dark lord and his little executive sock puppet become history? Soooo, the puppet..er..pres...um..boy emperor? seems to be into recycling according to Grist. Also, certain Big Oil operatives in the White House are lookin' to privatize western public lands for destructive Oil Shale. And finally, the Empire unveils plan to trash the Tongass National Forest. On the Enviro Show Echo Chamber, and in keeping with the show’s theme, we’ve linked to the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association’s superinsulated houses page on our blog. According to NESEA "A superinsulated home can save 75% of the annual energy costs for heating and cooling compared to a standard home, and is also more comfortable and healthy for the occupants." That works for us! "Gimme’ Shelter" by The Rolling Stones takes us to our interview with Becky Kemery, author of "Yurts – Living in the Round". Like Yurt dwellers say: "Versatile, beautiful and spiritual, both ancient and contemporary versions give [you] an option for shelter that is affordable, accessible and gentle to the earth". You can checkout Becky's site here: OK, that's it for this coming Super Duper Tuesday (what will they call it four years from now?). Check us out in two weeks when we interview Will Tuttle (not Buttle) on the "World Peace Diet". And remember: listen to your Mother! Welcome!
